Wendy Erskine A Belfast Portrait Shoot with Character
Portrait Photography in Belfast with Writer Wendy Erskine
As a Belfast photographer, one of the most rewarding parts of my work is capturing portraits of inspiring people who shape our cultural landscape. Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing Northern Ireland writer Wendy Erskine, celebrated for her short story collections that capture life in all its subtle beauty and complexity.
The shoot took place in Belfast, a city that always provides such a rich backdrop for portrait photography. Whether it’s the historic architecture, the vibrant streets, or the quieter corners that hold a sense of intimacy, Belfast has an energy that always translates beautifully into photographs. For Wendy’s portraits, I wanted to reflect her thoughtful, creative presence while also situating her within the fabric of the city that influences so much of her work.
Every portrait session tells a story. With Wendy, it was about creating images that felt authentic and natural, showing her personality without ever feeling staged. As a professional photographer, I always aim to strike that balance between artistic style and genuine expression.
We explored locations around Belfast that offered both texture and atmosphere, working with natural light to bring warmth and depth to the images. The result was a series of portraits that feel timeless and true, while also celebrating Belfast as a backdrop for creativity.
